Nobel Biocare introduces NobelRondo Zirconia, an esthetic and strong dental ceramic porcelain. NobelRondo Zirconia is intended for use in veneering Procera zirconia crowns, custom abutments, and fixed partial dentures. NobelRondo porcelains use a new scheme for identifying colors, dividing them into 6 color segments arranged in a round 6-level tray (Fig. 1). The system can be used to create 3 different levels of restorations, depending upon the ceramist's level of experience and the cost structure of the restoration. Astra Tech, Inc, announces FDA approval and the availability of OsseoSpeed, a fluoride modification to the TiOblast surface that is purported to promote faster bone growth (Fig. 2). The OsseoSpeed implant is available in 4 diameters (3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 mm), all of which include internal “double-hex” to provide antirotation and allow for indexing of the abutment. To further simplify placement, the carrier is narrower with depth markings that can guide abutment selection and confirm implant depth. Zimmer Dental Inc announces the availability of a gold-shaded version of the Atlantis abutment, providing clinicians with more flexibility in esthetic situations. The new Atlantis GoldHue abutment (Fig. 4) may be used with all-ceramic restorations or in areas with thin tissue. The surface of the Atlantis GoldHue abutment is a 1-3 μm thick layer of titanium nitride bonded to the surface of the milled titanium abutment. PowerTemp is a cartridge-based, provisional cement, for cementation of provisional or fixed partial dentures, as well as trial cementing of definitive restorations (Fig. 8). PowerTemp's paste-to-paste formula is dispensed through an automix delivery system and can be used with a conventional dispensing gun and mixing tips. PowerTemp's noneugenol and ZnO/Organic-based formula will not inhibit the polymerization of resin-based materials and is a choice when allergies to eugenol are a concern. Thermoflex Acetal Resin for Tooth-Colored Partial Denture Clasps
The Austenal Group of DENTSPLY Prosthetics announces the introduction of the newly reformulated Thermoflex Acetal Resin (Fig. 10) used in the fabrication of removable partial dentures (RPD). Thermoflex resin is available in 16 tooth shades, comparable to the Vita Lumin shades. Thermoflex also offers 3 bleached tooth colors and 3 tissue shades. Multilink Automix is a dual-polymerized, self-etching, universal adhesive cement (Fig. 11).
